GXO Logistics Scales Agility Digit Deployment to Additional Facilities
GXO Logistics is expanding its use of the Digit humanoid to two more sites, transitioning the bipedal robot from a single-site pilot to a multi-node operational fleet.
The transition of humanoid robots from laboratory curiosities to industrial assets reaches a new milestone as GXO Logistics announces the expansion of its partnership with Agility Robotics. Following a successful pilot phase, GXO will now deploy the Digit humanoid at two additional logistics sites. This move is a critical indicator for operations managers that bipedal hardware is maturing into a reliable solution for specific, high-volume tasks such as tote moving and sorting.
Unlike many humanoid developers still focused on walking demos or teleoperated tasks, Agility has focused Digit on the 'last meter' of warehouse automation. The robot is designed to interface with existing infrastructure—conveyors, shelving, and carts—without requiring the facility to be redesigned around the machine. By expanding to two more sites, GXO is testing the scalability of this integration and the ability of the robot to maintain uptime in varied environmental conditions.
For logistics leaders, the most significant aspect of this news is the commercial structure. GXO is utilizing the Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) model, which allows enterprise customers to treat humanoid labor as an operational expense rather than a massive capital expenditure. This lowers the barrier to entry for firms looking to automate repetitive manual labor while hedging against the rapid depreciation of early-generation hardware.
The deployment also serves as a competitive benchmark. While rivals like Figure and Tesla are targeting automotive manufacturing, Agility’s focus on the logistics sector provides a more immediate path to high-volume unit counts. The success of this multi-site rollout will likely be measured by cost-per-pick and cycle time consistency compared to human workers and traditional automated guided vehicles (AGVs).
As GXO integrates Digit into more nodes of its network, the industry will be watching for data on fleet management and safety. Operating a single robot is a technical feat; managing a fleet of humanoids across multiple geographic locations requires robust software orchestration and reliable maintenance cycles. This expansion is the first real-world test of whether bipedal robots can meet the rigorous availability requirements of global 3PL providers.
