Agility Partners With Nyobolt to Enable 20-Hour Shifts for Digit
Agility Robotics is integrating Nyobolt ultra-fast battery systems into Digit, aiming to slash charging downtime and deliver 20-hour industrial workdays.
Agility Robotics has selected battery developer Nyobolt to supply ultra-fast charging power systems for the Digit humanoid, targeting industrial deployments that demand up to 20 hours of daily uptime. The collaboration directly addresses one of the primary constraints in enterprise robotics: the ratio of active work time to battery charging and maintenance overhead.
For plant managers and logistics operators, humanoid utility depends heavily on duty cycles. Standard lithium-ion battery packs often require multiple hours to recharge or necessitate complex mechanical battery-swapping kiosks that occupy valuable facility square footage. If fast-charging cells can replenish a bipedal robot during standard shift breaks or short operational pauses, facilities can achieve higher throughput without buying redundant units to rotate off charging pads.
Nyobolt claims its specialized cell architecture can achieve near-full charges in a matter of minutes without suffering the severe thermal degradation typical of standard chemistry subjected to high current rates. Applying this performance to Digit suggests Agility is preparing its fifth-generation hardware for intensive multi-shift logistics environments, such as totes-to-conveyor consolidation and cross-docking.
The engineering hurdle now shifts to facility infrastructure and pack longevity. Delivering high-kilowatt bursts requires industrial-grade electrical supply lines on the warehouse floor, which can increase upfront installation costs. Operations teams will also scrutinize how many thousands of ultra-fast charge cycles the packs can endure before degraded capacity forces an expensive mid-life replacement.
As humanoid vendors transition from proof-of-concept trials to commercial production targets, energy logistics will define enterprise return on investment as much as dexterity or mobility. Agility's move signals that competing in high-velocity supply chains requires matching the utilization metrics of automated guided vehicles, keeping units working on the floor rather than idling at a wall plug.
