Agility Unveils Digit 5 with Rapid Charging to Overcome Warehouse Uptime Limits

Agility Robotics has unveiled Digit 5, representing a significant architectural overhaul designed specifically for dense warehouse workflows. The fifth iteration of the bipedal platform focuses directly on the primary hurdle facing current commercial trials: operating duty cycles. By integrating ultra-fast charging battery technology from Nyobolt, the company plans to support 90 minutes of continuous task execution following a nine-minute charging cycle.

For logistics operators, power logistics have long undermined the math of humanoid deployments. In existing distribution centers running pilot programs, bipedal platforms often require multiple hours at stationary docks to replenish runtimes that rarely exceed two to three hours. That imbalance forces warehouse managers to calculate total cost of ownership against substantial unit redundancies simply to keep production cells staffed continuously across multi-shift operations.

If the sub-ten-minute turnaround holds under heavy industrial payloads, Digit can operate on opportunistic top-ups during scheduled worker rest periods or standard dock dwell times. Agility co-founder Jonathan Hurst framed the redesign as the company's first model engineered specifically for economic volume production, with architectural choices aimed at human-robot floor parity and safety certified for shared aisles.

The timeline, however, pushes operational availability down the road. Deliveries of Digit 5 are not slated to begin until 2027, giving competing warehouse automation platforms like Apptronik Apollo and Figure's commercial fleets a multi-year window to cement customer relationships and establish baseline integration norms in North American fulfillment nodes.

For supply chain executives currently auditing automation budgets, Digit 5 signals that humanoid builders are finally prioritizing duty cycles over raw demonstration dexterity. The key metric to watch over the next eighteen months will be whether Agility can demonstrate stable battery cycle longevity without thermal degradation in rigorous, continuous-motion testing.
