LG Electronics is officially entering the humanoid race, partnering with US chipmaker Nvidia to develop a bipedal robot slated for a first-quarter 2027 unveiling. The collaboration combines LG’s deep footprint in home appliances and consumer electronics with Nvidia’s dominant AI computing hardware and simulation tools. By targeting a 2027 debut, LG is signaling its intent to move beyond static smart home hubs and simple vacuum cleaners toward fully mobile, bipedal helpers capable of navigating human living spaces.

Under the agreement, LG's upcoming humanoid will be powered by Nvidia's Jetson Thor system-on-chip, a processor designed specifically for next-generation robotic brains. The partnership will also utilize Nvidia’s Isaac platform to train the robot's artificial intelligence in virtual environments before deploying it on physical hardware. This simulation-first approach is intended to accelerate development, allowing the robot to learn complex manipulation and balance tasks without risking physical wear and tear on early prototypes.

For consumers, LG’s entry brings a massive, established manufacturing engine to a sector currently dominated by startups and automotive giants. Unlike pure-play robotics firms, LG already possesses global supply chains, retail networks, and appliance integration expertise. However, the 2027 timeline means LG is arriving late to a party where competitors like 1X are already testing the NEO humanoid in real households, and Tesla is pushing its Optimus toward pilot factory deployments. Furthermore, LG must prove its bipedal machine can perform practical domestic tasks rather than existing as an expensive novelty.

The success of LG’s venture will ultimately depend on price and utility. Bipedal motion remains notoriously difficult and expensive to stabilize, and translating that technology into a safe, affordable home appliance is a hurdle no manufacturer has fully cleared.
