Calvin-40
Headless French industrial humanoid built in 40 days from exoskeleton tech, hauling parts on Renault's Douai EV assembly line.
Overview
Wandercraft, the French exoskeleton maker, unveiled Calvin-40 in June 2025, claiming it developed the headless industrial humanoid in 40 days by reusing elements of its medical exoskeletons. Renault Group took a minority stake in Wandercraft and is industrializing the robot, which is deployed at the Douai EV plant handling tires for the Renault 5 and is described as the first humanoid deployed in Europe for assembly-line production tasks. It targets a record ~40 kg payload, 8-22 hours of daily operation, modular end effectors and what Wandercraft calls the industry's first certifiable safety solution, with Renault planning some 350 units across its factories by 2027; sales are currently to industrial partners rather than open channels.
